“Ciel* is a 4-year old girl from a village near Santiago, Dominican Republic. She has sleep apnea syndrome, or pauses in breathing during sleep, a condition exacerbated by recurrent tonsillitis ┬áthat partially blocks her airways. Ciel’s continuous lack of sleep weakened her immune system, making her body more vulnerable to illness, but her family could not afford medical treatment.

A medical team from the nonprofit organization Dominican Pediatric ENT Missions (DPEM) was operating a temporary clinic in Santiago, treating children with ear, nose and throat disease who had no other access to health care services. Included in AmeriCares support for this trip were two cases of Rocuronium Bromide, generously provided by X-GEN Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
